DIRECTIONS
16Beaver is the address of a space initiated/run by artists to create and maintain an ongoing platform for the presentation, production, and discussion of a variety of artistic/cultural/economic/political projects. It is the point of many departures/arrivals.
THE FUNDRAISER
In 11 years of existence, we have been able to organize 400 or so events, talks, walks, conversations, screenings all free and open to the public. In that time, we have not sought any grants, preferring instead to find an autonomous and sustainable approach to meet our base costs and needs.
In September of 2009, we began to encounter problems with our lease renewal and this caused challenges in our ability to maintain our very fragile financial structure of rentals and studio use, which paid our rent.
We have hesitated to take the step of asking for money, as the contributions of energy and participation from so many over the years have sustained 16Beaver. But the sum we need to raise is attainable, and the space is important to too many people for us not to try something distributed and collective.
Although we are not a registered 501(c)3 non-profit and do not plan to become one, we felt given this outreach for money, we needed to have clear accounting and a basic infrastructure for accepting support.
We are now fiscally sponsored through Fractured Atlas. You can contribute
directly by going online:

We appreciate everyone's support.
MONDAY NIGHTS @ 16BEAVER
Since 1999, the Reading Group at 16Beaver has organized presentations, readings, discussions, screenings, and panels with/by artists, curators, thinkers, writers, and activists.
Monday nights have been an evening to share time and generate discussions, links, ideas. Meetings usually begin at 7pm and the location is almost always at 16Beaver Street, 4th Floor.
Of course after 4 or 5 years, Monday became Tuesday Wednesday Thursday Friday or any day which seemed appropriate. And events, seminars, walks, activities have also been organized in different cities. The initiative for all events comes from people who become involved in the space and from friends or people we are interested in, who are visiting the city.
RESIDENTS
16BEAVER is an independent collectively-sustaining project. The Residents
of the space maintain the space by using it as their place of work/work/activities.
MAILING LISTS / BLOGS
A big part of 16BEAVER happens through our mailing lists and blogs. In order to help create a more interesting future, we need to be connected. Each list includes different features and goals.
GENERAL LIST:
This is our original or "classic" list. It includes materials
submitted to us by subscribers which are original (Journalisms)or
taken off the net (ARTicles + Links). It also includes a description
of any event which we organize in New York or elsewhere. This
list can get active but is usually sent out 1-2 times a week.
