Justice In July–National Mobilization To Stop Endless War and
Repression

Gather in: Franklin Square (7th st & Race)[8am]
10am: Rally
12pm: March

From What to a Slave is Your Fourth of July?, Frederick Douglas:

"A day that reveals more than all other days of the year, the gross
injustice and cruelty to which he is the constant victim. To him your
celebration is a sham; your boasted liberty an unholy license; your
national greatness, swelling vanity; your sounds of rejoicing are
empty and heartless; your shouts of liberty and equality, hollow."

On July 4th, 2003 the National Constitution Center will open, putting
Philadelphia center stage in the nation's celebration of the
holiday.
In the aftermath of the U.S government's invasion of Iraq; a
brutal reign of terror that isolated the U.S internationally and caused
millions of its own citizens to question and oppose their
government's actions, the leaders of this nation are looking to
the Fourth of July as an opportunity to reinforce their lies
of "liberation" and celebrate a massacre that has left thousands of
Iraqi civilians dead.

As the leaders of this country unveil the New Constitution Center and
spew forth lies about "rights and liberty," another person's name
will be added to the Pentagon's massive database of "Total
Information Awareness," a law assisting in the creation of a larger
Police State will be rubber stamped for approval and the barb wire of
Homeland Security will tighten.

As the leaders of this country talk of Freedom, a Pakistani man paces
back and forth in a military cell, facing deportation because of his
religion or nationality like thousands of others.

And while George W. Bush brags of liberation, many Iraqi civilians
are still trapped in their homes left to grieve the loss of their
family members killed in the invasion. U.S. soldiers still run
operations through city streets carrying out arbitrary mass arrests
with orders to "shoot to kill" anyone who shows any form of
resistance.

"For it is not light that is needed, but fire; it is not the gentle
shower, but thunder. We need the storm, the whirlwind, and the
earthquake. The feeling of the nation must be quickened; the
conscience of the nation must be roused, the hypocrisy of the nation
must be exposed." (Frederick Douglas)

On July 4th, along with every other day, as people of the world we
will reaffirm our determination to oppose and stop this juggernaut of
war and repression. Regardless of whether it is wreaking havoc at
full throttle or a deafening grind, we will oppose its very existence
and seek to abolish any manifestation it may take.

The Fourth of July is traditionally viewed as a day of careless
celebration and blind nostalgia.

We aim to change to change that.

We will not sit idle and let their televised cheers drown out the
cries and screams of the people in Iraq and Afghanistan. The actions
taken by the U.S. government and the course it has embarked on gives
us every reason to mobilize thousands and thousands of people in the
streets of Philadelphia to confront the leaders of this land and to
send a message to our communities and around the world that the
rulers of the nation do not speak in our name. As Bush and Company
continue to occupy Iraq and are drawing up plans for the next country
they want to invade, whether it be Syria or Iran or North Korea, they
better know that there is a movement of millions of people that will
oppose them every step of the way.

Along with several national and local groupings we call for all who
can attend to resist and make common cause with the people of the
world. In addition, the National Not In Our Name Student and Youth
Network has initiated a call along with others to participate in
a "No Youth Military Recruitment" contingent as part of a long term
campaign against the recruitment of youth into the armed forces.
