http://www.e-Xplo.org

Since their first project Dencity, which involved an electro-acoustic bus
tour around the periphery of Williamsburg, e-Xplo has formally been
investigating the lines connecting sound, space, place, performance and
“cinema”. Despite the gaining popularity of “psychogeography” or
“cartography” within current artistic discourses, e-Xplo continues to be
interested in alternate ways of mapping, isolating, linking and connecting
different places/locations, foregrounding the links between topographical,
historical and personal developments.

Often starting with a specific site (more often a set of sites –
discursive, physical, virtual, historical, …), the collective, comprised
of Erin McGonigle, Heimo Lattner, & Rene Gabri, then develops a set of
themes that often intertwine personal, environmental, architectural,
discursive and political narratives.

Although a great number of their site specific projects have engaged with
the touring genre, they are also interested in other contexts that allow
them to reformulate or reconstitute their investigations.

This Monday, e-Xplo will be performing a live version of a film/sound
installation created for an exhibition in a WWII Bunker located in the
center or the “new” Berlin.

This performance is a follow up to the NY premiere with Shelley Hirsch
last weekend at Location 1. The event was a part of Roulette’s Fall
Series. For more information, please visit: http://www.roulette.org

For tonight’s performance, Ayreen Anastas will be reading.

We hope to see you, for what should be an interesting evening.

2. About Domestic Disturbance; Fight or Flight; or Shelter

Domestic Disturbance; Fight or Flight; or Shelter, references the
questions that called themselves out in this project: who stays, who stays
where, how, how does one stay, how does one decide to fight for or leave,
what is it to reside somewhere?

Originally exhibited as a multi-track film-sound installation for an WWII
bunker situated in the heart of the "new" Berlin. The "bunker" is the
starting point for a work dealing with the intersections between memory,
politics, war, property, gentrification, media, exile-ration and the
subject.

The film score made for the silent - over-determined space of the bunker,
contains a vocabulary swollen by history, using words, sounds, radio
broadcasts, personal narrative and images that would take the
viewer/listener to another site. Not a site outside the bunker, but next
to it, added to it, informed and in relation to it. A site where the
bunker could slip from shelter to one's residence, from a space of
security to one's insecurity, from a hideout to one's internment.
Continuing with the "bunker" as an in-between space, we propose the
physical environmental space constructively, as a personal one: that is,
the desire to create a vocabulary for oneself.

The challenge for our live version will be to tell this story anew. To
re-stage and re-make this film so that it is no longer dependant on the
presence of the physical bunker. In this case, as in the original
installation the bunker becomes a call or provocation to (re)consider our
relation to dwelling, shelter, security, community.

This performance is a follow up to the NY premiere with Shelley Hirsch
last weekend at Location 1. The event was a part of Roulette’s Fall
Series. For more information, please visit: http://www.roulette.org
